One Packing List, Two Formats: 4×6 Label and A4 Document

Last updated 2026-10-31

Some retailers want the packing list as a 4×6 label on the carton, others as an A4 sheet inside it. Docklify keeps both formats as separate templates, prints each from the right place, and matches the format to what the retailer declared.

Both formats live in one library: in WMS → Settings → Print Templates (Packing lists tab), each retailer shows its label form (ZPL for label printers) and its A4 document form (HTML for office printers) side by side, and a form that has not been created yet is marked as such. A retailer that declared “both” uses the label at the packing station and the A4 sheet wherever a paper copy is needed.

Where each format prints#

  • 4×6 label: at the Packing Station with the “Packing list” button, on the label printer, right next to the carrier label flow.
  • A4 document: beside that button at the Packing Station (“A4” button), and from the order detail’s print menu (“Packing List (A4)”). It opens a print page you can send to a normal printer or through the Device Hub document channel.
  • Both formats draw the same data — order, addresses, carrier, tracking, per-carton SSCC and line items — from the same order, so the two copies can never disagree.

Docklify ships with ready A4 layouts for the big chains — Amazon Vendor, Walmart (plus its drop-ship brand slip), Target, Home Depot, Costco, Wayfair (plus its brand slip), Chewy and Best Buy — restored from each retailer’s published requirements. They are read-only; clone one into your own template to adjust wording or layout, then bind the clone on the retailer if it must be used every time.

If a retailer declared a required packing list and no template fits, both print entries stop with a message instead of printing a wrong-format sheet. Add or activate a template for that slot (or fix the declaration) and print again.

Brand logo on the A4 packing list#

The standard A4 packing list layout has a brand slot in its header. The logo is never stored in the template — at print time Docklify fills the slot from your brand settings: first the client’s own logo (set on the client’s page under Master Data → Clients), and only if the client has none, your organization’s logo (Admin → Organization settings → Brand card). The logo goes with the matching brand name, and changing a logo takes effect on the very next print.

If neither the client nor your organization has a logo, the brand slot simply does not appear on the sheet — no placeholder image, no empty frame. The brand slot is available on A4 document templates; the 4×6 label format does not print logos, and saving a label template that mentions the brand image shows a short heads-up about that.
