Drayage: port container shuttling essentials

Last updated 2026-10-13

Import/export/empty/chassis moves, container tracking with free-time alerts, quotes, detention billing, and documents.

Drayage covers short-haul container moves between ports/ramps and customer warehouses: import pulls, export returns, empty returns, and chassis repositioning. Every order must have a merchant (cargo owner).

Core workflow in 5 steps#

  1. Create the order (DRY-): move_type, pickup/delivery locations (or address-book entries), container/vessel/terminal details.
  2. Optionally quote first (QT-): base rate + accessorials; an accepted quote can spawn the drayage order.
  3. Dispatch from the board: assign an available driver (shared_drivers) and chassis; dispatch flips them to on_job / in_use.
  4. Track the container: vessel ETA, discharge, customs hold, last free day; the board warns when free time runs low and accrues per-diem automatically.
  5. Complete, then invoice (INV-): base + detention (auto-billed from detention events) + per-diem lines; age invoices by due date and track collection status.
  • WMS — an import order flagged "deliver to own warehouse" tries to create a WMS inbound receipt on completion.
  • TMS / LastMile — drivers are shared (shared_drivers); the mobile driver app advances statuses with GPS.
  • Documents — POD/BOL/TIR/EIR photos upload into the unified Documents center.
Street Turn pairs an import empty ready for return with an export needing an empty — same terminal, same size, within ±3 days — to save a round trip.
