One Template Library: UCC Labels and Packing Lists in Both Forms
UCC label templates live in the UCC Label Templates library; packing lists live in the Packing List Templates library with both forms — the 4×6 ZPL label form and the A4 HTML document form — maintained side by side. Both libraries share the same ideas: naming convention, sample-data preview, version history, clone-to-edit for built-ins, and test print.
Use WMS → Settings → Print Templates: one library for everything — the “UCC labels” tab for SSCC pallet and carton labels, and the “Packing lists” tab for packing lists in both forms. Each row carries a form badge (label form / document form), and the overview at the top of the Packing lists tab shows both forms per retailer side by side, marking any form that has not been created yet. From a retailer’s linked-template card you can jump straight into the library, filtered to that retailer.
Working with a template#
- Name it by convention: {retailer}-{size}-{purpose}, for example walmart-4x6-pallet-V1 or target-letter-packing-list. The name is how people (and the automatic matching) recognise it.
- Edit with placeholders: [[PO_NO]], [[SHIP_TO_NAME]], [[LINES]] and friends stand where real order values go. The editor inserts them for you and previews the template filled with sample data.
- Every save creates a version. Open the version history to view an older layout or clone it — handy when a retailer changes its requirements and you need the previous one back.
- Built-in templates are read-only. Clone one to make it yours (the clone drops the built-in flag and any retailer binding), adjust it, then bind it on the retailer if it should always win.
- Test print before go-live: label templates render a PNG preview (and can send a test to a printer); document templates open a full-page preview you can print. Deactivated templates stay in the library but are never picked automatically — use “show inactive” to see them.
When the platform retires or emergency-disables a built-in template#
- Retired by platform badge: the platform has stopped distributing this template. Your copy keeps printing exactly as before — the badge is only a heads-up. Consider switching to the newer version, or clone the template so it becomes fully yours.
- Emergency-disabled (red badge, with a reason): the platform found a serious problem with this template, so your copy was disabled right away and will not print. The badge shows the reason the platform gave. Wait for the platform to restore it or publish a fixed version — or clone another template and adjust it yourself if you need to ship now.
Built-in retailer templates (first batch)#
The label library now ships ready-made 4×6 UCC layouts for five retailers, built from each retailer’s own published label requirements. Find them in WMS → Settings → Print Templates — they carry the retailer’s name plus Pallet or Carton and a version suffix (for example walmart-4x6-pallet-V2). Built-in templates are read-only: if a layout is close but not exact for your operation, clone it, adjust your copy, and bind the clone on the retailer so it is always picked.
- Walmart: pallet and carton SSCC-18 labels. The pallet SSCC matches your ASN, and the carton label follows the published GS1-128 placement guidance.
- Amazon Vendor: a single-SKU pallet placard, a Mixed SKU pallet placard, and a carton label with the three required elements (logistic barcode, item description, quantity). Amazon Vendor does not require a paper packing list, so its requirement setting no longer asks for one.
- The Home Depot: pallet and carton labels in the official zone layout (ship from / ship to / carrier / PO / pallet or carton number / SSCC zones), laid out exactly from the published barcode specifications.
- Target: carton and pallet SSCC-18 labels — every carton gets its own SSCC that matches your ASN. Costco: a pallet SSCC-18 label (Costco has no built-in carton label).
- A note on accuracy: the Walmart, Target and Costco layouts follow publicly available requirements. Their exact portal layouts may differ in small details, so confirm the layout with the retailer before your first shipment on a new account. The Amazon Vendor and Home Depot layouts follow the retailers’ published specifications directly.
Built-in retailer templates (second batch)#
Nine more retailers now have ready-made layouts in the libraries: Best Buy, Kroger, Wayfair, Chewy, Academy Sports, Sally Beauty, Burlington, Dollar General and Dollar Tree. Label layouts are 4×6 and packing lists are letter-size documents. Academy Sports, Sally Beauty, Dollar General and Dollar Tree are new retailers in the list — their requirement settings come pre-filled, and printing picks each retailer’s own template automatically, the same way as the first batch. Built-in templates are read-only: clone and adjust your own copy when a layout needs a local tweak.
- Best Buy: pallet and carton SSCC labels plus a letter packing list (one per pallet for RDC shipments). The carton label shows the vendor name, product name or model number, the Best Buy Alpha PO and the case-pack quantity. On the packing list, the PRO number, BOL number, freight term and lot count print as fill-in lines — write them in by hand when they are not part of your shipment data.
- Kroger: pallet and carton labels carrying the vendor name, item number, product description, PO number and quantity, with the SSCC at the bottom. Put the carton label on the lower-left of a narrow side of the carton, under the stretch wrap. These layouts follow Kroger’s published manufacturing receiving specification — if you ship into Kroger retail distribution centers, confirm the layout with your Kroger EDI coordinator before the first shipment.
- Burlington: a carton GS1-128 label only. Burlington does not accept pallet-level UCC labels, so there is deliberately no Burlington pallet label — mark each pallet with the PO number and “Pallet X of Y” in plain text instead. Apply the carton label to the lower-right of the longest face, with the barcode about 1¼ inches above the bottom edge, and always use adhesive label stock.
- Academy Sports: a carton GS1-128 label with the PO number, style number, carton contents and carton sequence. The label also has a destination DC number field, which is currently left blank — it will print automatically once DC data is connected in the system. There is no separate pallet label: a full pallet of a single SKU uses this same carton label as one large carton, with the total quantity of sellable units.
- Sally Beauty: carton and pallet GS1-128 labels plus a letter packing list. Carton labels go on the lower-right of the longest side (on tall cartons place them vertically; on low cartons fold the excess over the top — never over the tape seam, never on top). Pallet labels go on the upper-right corner of the pallet, on the side facing the trailer door. For small-parcel shipments the packing list goes in each carton and lists only that carton; for LTL and full-truck loads it travels in a pouch on the last pallet loaded.
- Dollar General and Dollar Tree: these two retailers use printed markings instead of barcoded SSCC labels, so their built-in layouts are text markings — do not put a GS1-128 label on their cartons. Dollar General pallets are marked with the PO number and the destination DC; cartons carry the style, description and pack quantity (and a FRAGILE marking where needed). Dollar Tree cartons carry the FD SKU, description, master quantity and PO number. Each also has a letter packing list: Dollar General shipments travel with two copies of the packing list and/or the original bill of lading, and Dollar Tree’s packing list is attached to the last carton or pallet at the tail of the trailer.
- Wayfair and Chewy: a Wayfair carton label and Chewy pallet and carton labels — every carton’s SSCC must match your ASN exactly. If Wayfair provides shipping documents through Partner Home for an order, use those documents first; these templates are the fallback. Chewy drop-ship orders are different: they ship on Chewy-approved labels through Rithum, not on these warehouse labels.
Built-in packing list layouts (document editions)#
The document side of the Packing List library (A4 / Letter) now carries ready-made layouts in each retailer’s own style for Wayfair, Target, Costco, Macy’s, Amazon, Shopify, Lowe’s, Sears, Zulily, HSN, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom Rack, Petco, Hayneedle and Houzz, and the standard packing list has a refreshed layout. Shopify, Sears, Zulily, HSN, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom Rack, Petco, Hayneedle and Houzz are new retailers in the list — their requirement settings come pre-filled. Nothing changes in how you print: print the Packing List (A4) from the Shipping Station or the order page and Docklify picks the retailer’s own layout automatically. Built-in layouts are read-only: clone and adjust your own copy when a layout needs a local tweak.
- Amazon has two packing-list layouts — a priced edition and a plain edition — filed under the Amazon Vendor retailer entry. If your Amazon channel uses the other edition than the one printing picks, open the retailer’s Linked Templates card and bind the edition you want to the Packing List (document) slot.
- Wayfair’s packing list is a landscape layout: it prints sideways on the page by design, matching Wayfair’s own packing slip. No setting is needed — the printed page follows the layout.
- Several layouts (Costco, Macy’s and HSN among them) include a gift-message area: it prints the packing note you wrote for that shipment, and simply stays blank when there is no note.
