Drayage dispatch: the board, assignment, and Street Turn
Assign available drivers (shared_drivers) and chassis from the dispatch board; dispatched drivers go on_job, chassis go in_use; Street Turn pairs import empties with export needs.
Dispatch is where the plan meets the wheels: you look at everything that is waiting, pick a driver and a chassis that are free, and send them to work. The dispatch board pulls all of this into one screen so you are not hunting across tabs.
What the board shows#
- In-progress orders (draft/quoted/dispatched/picked_up/delivering) with urgency flags.
- Container tracking enrichment: last free day and free days left, customs hold, vessel ETA, discharge time, export ERD and cutoff.
- Drivers with their current job, and chassis with their status.
Assign in 4 steps#
- Pick an order that is draft or quoted — only these two can be dispatched.
- Assign an available driver — drivers are shared master data (shared_drivers), the same pool TMS and LastMile use.
- Optionally assign an available chassis — the wheel frame that carries the container.
- Confirm: the order flips to dispatched, the driver to on_job (linked to this order), the chassis to in_use; a dispatch event is logged and the driver is notified.
Street Turn: skip the empty leg#
A Street Turn pairs an import empty ready to be returned with an export that needs an empty container: instead of returning the box to the depot and later pulling another one out, the same box goes straight from the import delivery to the export pickup. The system suggests pairs — same terminal, same container size, and an export empty need within ±3 days of the import delivery.

After dispatch, the driver advances the order from the mobile app: dispatched → picked_up → delivering → completed, with GPS attached automatically to each status tap.
