LastMile: pickups, sort wall, routes, and deliveries

Last updated 2026-10-13

Pickup tasks, scan-to-sort wall, heuristic route optimization, auto-dispatch rules, POD, customer tracking, and returns.

LastMile runs the final leg: pickup tasks (LMP-), a scan-to-sort wall that is the product’s differentiator, route planning with heuristic optimization, auto-dispatch rules, deliveries (LMD-) with POD, public customer tracking links, and returns (LRT-). Drivers and the sort center work from the mobile app.

Core workflow in 5 steps#

  1. Create pickup tasks (contact, address, package/pallet counts, time window, hub) and assign drivers; mark picked_up or failed.
  2. Sort: scan each barcode at the hub; the system recommends an open slot by route or zone, or flags exceptions; load the slot to close it.
  3. Plan routes (LMR-): add stops, run heuristic optimization (nearest-neighbor + time windows + capacity), and review the plan.
  4. Dispatch: assign manually or run auto-dispatch rules (zone / nearest driver / round-robin); watch the dispatch board for alerts.
  5. Deliver with POD (signature / photo / barcode / OTP); customers track via the public token link. Failed stops can be re-assigned.
  • TMS / Drayage — drivers are shared (shared_drivers); the driver mobile app shows today’s tasks, a route map, and one-tap status changes with GPS.
  • WMS — picked-up parcels can flow into warehouse receiving; check the actual pages for the current handoff.
Customer notifications (SMS/email) are currently stubs — records are marked sent but nothing is actually delivered until a provider is connected.
