Labor Shifts: Define and Manage Shift Patterns
Define the shifts your warehouse runs — a name and a start and end time for each — then switch them on or off, edit them, or remove them. One short list that every supervisor reads the same way.
A shift in Labor is a named block of working time: "Day Shift 06:00 – 14:00", "Swing 14:00 – 22:00", "Night 22:00 – 06:00". Before anything else can talk about shifts, the shifts themselves have to exist as clean definitions — that is what the Shifts page is for. You plan the pattern of your warehouse day here: create each shift once with its name and hours, keep the ones in use switched on, switch off the ones on pause, and delete the ones that will never run again. The page is deliberately small: one table, one form, no setup maze.
What one shift definition holds#
- Name: plain words your team already uses — "Day Shift", "早班". The form’s own example is exactly that: Day Shift / 早班.
- Start time and End time: picked as one time range (HH:mm, 24-hour). A night shift simply runs past midnight — start 22:00, end 06:00.
- Active on/off: whether this shift is currently in use. Switching off keeps the definition in the list — nothing is lost.
Step 1: Create a shift#
- Open Labor → Shifts (/labor/shifts). The table lists every shift you have defined: Name, Start, End, Active, Actions.
- Click "+ New shift" at the top right. A small dialog opens with two fields: Name and Time range.
- Type the name (for example "Day Shift / 早班"), then set the range with the time picker: first click is the start, second click is the end. Both fields are required.
- Confirm to save. The new shift appears in the table, switched on and ready.
Plan the whole pattern in one sitting: create the day, swing and night shifts back to back so the three rows cover the full 24 hours with no gaps and no overlaps. Keeping that pattern as three clean rows on Labor → Shifts is what lets every supervisor plan the day against the same picture.
- A common three-shift pattern looks like this in the table: Day Shift 06:00 – 14:00, Swing Shift 14:00 – 22:00, Night Shift 22:00 – 06:00 — three rows, the whole day covered.
- A one-shift warehouse needs just one row. Start there — add a second shift only when the work really starts running one.
Step 2: Switch a shift on or off#
- Find the shift in the table and flip the switch in its Active column. The change saves immediately — there is no edit page and no Save button for this.
- Use off for seasonal or paused shifts instead of deleting them: the definition stays one flip away when the season comes back.
Step 3: Edit or delete a shift#
- Click "Edit" on the row. The same dialog opens with the current name and times filled in — change what you need and confirm.
- Click "Delete" on the row and confirm the "Delete this shift?" prompt. Deleting is final for that definition — if there is any chance the shift runs again, switch it off instead.
Shifts are one of the quiet foundations of the Labor app: the definitions you keep here are the shared vocabulary for the working day, alongside the operators whose output the dashboard measures (Labor → Operators) and the standards their UPH is judged against (Labor → Standards). Keep the definitions clean, and the rest of Labor stays easy to read.
