YMS: yard management essentials

Last updated 2026-10-13

Appointments, gate check-in/out, equipment, movement tasks and yard checks — keeping a busy yard under control.

YMS (Yard Management System) tracks every vehicle and piece of equipment that enters, moves around, and leaves your yard: appointments before arrival, gate check-in with an Entry Ticket, equipment parked on spots or docks, movement tasks, and yard checks.

Core workflow in 5 steps#

  1. Create an appointment (AP-000001) with a time window, carrier, driver and plate numbers.
  2. Gate check-in: capture driver/equipment/seal/photos and print the Entry Ticket (ET-000001); the equipment is placed in_yard and the spot becomes occupied.
  3. Optionally assign a dock (shared_locations): the equipment is then treated as sitting on that dock.
  4. Run movement tasks (MV-): pick the equipment from one spot and drop it at another; the mobile app does pick → drop in two steps.
  5. Gate check-out: scan the same Entry Ticket; equipment departs and the spot is released. The gate log is append-only.
  • WMS — appointments share the wms_appointments table (source_app marks yms/wms); dock/spot locations are shared via shared_locations.
  • TMS / Drayage — checked-in trailers and containers feed inbound/outbound execution.
The dashboard shows dock/spot occupancy, today’s appointments, equipment waiting to load/unload, and open movement tasks at a glance.
