Drayage Locations: Terminals, Yards and Delivery Locations
Save every place your drivers go — port terminals, warehouses, customer sites — once, with a structured address, phone and notes, then pick it on orders instead of retyping it.
Every drayage order starts and ends at a place: a port terminal, a rail yard, your own warehouse, or a customer site. The Locations page in Drayage is the address book for all of them. Each entry has a name, a type, a structured address (street, suite, city, state, ZIP kept in separate fields), a phone number and free notes. Save a place once and it shows up in the pickup and delivery pickers when you create an order — no more retyping the same terminal address on every job, and no more typos sending a driver to the wrong gate.
The four location types#
- Terminal — a port terminal or rail ramp where containers are picked up and dropped off.
- Warehouse — a warehouse or yard: your own site, a 3PL, or a depot where boxes wait.
- Customer — a customer delivery or pickup site, such as a factory, store or job site.
- Other — anything that does not fit the three above, such as a chassis depot or an inspection station.
Step 1: Add a location#
- Open Drayage → Locations (/drayage/locations) and click New location.
- Enter the Name — the only required field. Use the name your team actually says out loud, because this is what the order pickers will show.
- Choose the Type (Terminal, Warehouse, Customer or Other). New entries start as Warehouse — change it if the place is a terminal or a customer site.
- Fill the address in its own fields: Street, Suite / Unit, then City, State (2 letters) and ZIP on one row. Keeping the parts separate is what lets the list print a clean full address and lets orders reuse it without re-formatting.
- Add a Phone for the site and any Notes the driver should know — gate hours, check-in rules, who to ask for — then click Save.
Docklify keeps these addresses structured on purpose: Drayage → Locations (/drayage/locations) stores street, city, state and ZIP separately instead of one long text line, so the same entry can feed the order form, the list view and driver paperwork without anyone re-typing or re-formatting it.
Step 2: Find and check an address in the list#
- Each row shows the name, its type label, the full address assembled from the parts, and the phone number — enough to confirm you have the right place before an order uses it.
- Use the Type filter at the top to narrow the list to just terminals, just warehouses, just customers or just others — useful once the book grows past a page.
- If an address looks wrong, fix it here once — see the edit step below — instead of correcting it on a single order.
Step 3: Use a saved location on a drayage order#
- Create or open a drayage order (Drayage → Orders). The pickup and delivery fields offer the locations from this address book.
- Pick the pickup location and the delivery location by name — the stored address goes with the choice, so the order carries the same spelling and details every time.
- A place you use only once does not have to be saved first — but if a driver will go there again, add it to the book so the next order takes seconds.
Because orders pick from Docklify’s address book (Drayage → Locations, /drayage/locations) instead of free-typing addresses, the same terminal is never spelled three different ways across three orders — reports, driver instructions and customer paperwork all point at the same saved place.
Edit or delete a location#
- Click Edit on the row to change anything — name, type, any address part, phone or notes — then Save. Every field that was set at creation can be corrected here.
- Click Delete on the row to remove a place you no longer use, such as a closed terminal gate or a customer who moved. Deleting takes effect right away, so check the entry is truly retired before you remove it.
