Retailer Requirements & Template Bindings: Declare Once, Print Right Every Time

Last updated 2026-10-29

Tell Docklify what each retailer requires — pallet UCC labels, carton UCC labels, a packing list, and in which format — then optionally bind the exact template for each slot. Printing picks bound → retailer-specific → standard → built-in, and warns you before a required template is missing.

Every retailer plays by its own paperwork rules: Walmart wants SSCC labels on pallets and cartons plus a packing list, Costco only asks for pallet labels, Amazon FBA uses its own system entirely. Instead of remembering this per order, declare it once per retailer. Open WMS → Master Data → Retailers, edit a retailer, and use the “Template requirements” card: Pallet UCC label, Carton UCC label, Packing list, and the packing list format (4×6 label, A4 document, or both). New retailers start from sensible presets for well-known chains, and you can change any of them at any time.

Below the requirements, the “Linked templates” card shows four slots — Pallet UCC, Carton UCC, Packing list (label) and Packing list (document). Each slot left on Automatic resolves at print time in this order: your bound template first, then a template made specifically for this retailer, then the shared standard template, then a generic built-in fallback. Bind a slot only when you need one exact layout to win every time — for example a layout your team cloned and adjusted for that retailer. Only templates that actually fit the slot (right kind, right format, active) can be bound, so a wrong pick is impossible.

What happens when a required template is missing#

  • Packing list (required, nothing usable found): printing stops with a plain-language message naming the retailer, the slot and the next step. Nothing half-prints.
  • UCC labels: a generic built-in layout keeps freight moving, and the shipment records a “missing template” pack exception so the office can fix the real template afterwards.
  • Orders warn early: allocating or committing an order whose retailer is missing a required template adds a warning to the response, and the order detail page shows the template compliance status — long before anyone reaches the printer.
  • Fixed automatically: as soon as a fitting template exists and is active, open “missing template” exceptions on the Pack Exceptions page close themselves — no manual cleanup.
Tip: the Retailers list shows a per-retailer template status column. “Missing template” there means a required slot has no usable template yet — open the retailer and check the linked-template slots; each slot tells you what it resolved to and offers the fitting candidates.
