Zones mode: draw functional areas on the yard map
Layout Editor zones: ten area types (container, reefer, hazmat, gate…), drawn as polygons, auto-colored, rendered flat on the 3D yard. How to add, edit and delete them.
Zones mode is the "paint layer" of the Layout Editor: you draw functional areas — container blocks, reefer plugs, hazmat isolation, gate lanes, offices — as flat colored polygons on the yard map. Zones are layout metadata: they never move equipment or change slot status, they just make the 3D yard readable at a glance.
The ten zone types#
- Container storage — blue #3B82F6.
- Chassis parking — purple #8B5CF6.
- Reefer zone — cyan #06B6D4 (plug-in slots for refrigerated containers).
- Hazmat zone — red #EF4444 (isolated area, stricter stacking rules).
- Gate area — amber #F59E0B.
- Maintenance area — gray #6B7280.
- Office area — emerald #10B981.
- Staging area — orange #F97316.
- Parking area — lime #84CC16.
- Other — light gray #9CA3AF.
Draw a zone in four steps#
- Open the Layout Editor for a draft layout and switch to "Zones" mode.
- Click "Add zone", pick a type, then click on the map to drop vertices — at least 3. Double-click to close the polygon.
- Give it a name (optional). The color fills in automatically from the type; you can override it.
- Save. The zone is stored on this layout version only — publish the layout and it appears flat on the 3D yard.
Edit, reorder and delete#
- Rename / recolor / change the sort order: select the zone and edit it in the side panel.
- Zones paint in sort order — lower numbers first, so put big background areas (like the whole yard outline) at the top.
- Delete: select the zone → trash icon. Slots and equipment are untouched — zones are just paint.
