Asset registry: every device gets an ID card

Last updated 2026-10-15

Forklifts, pallet jacks, scanners, label printers, dock doors — register each device with a number, type, warehouse and status, and stick a QR label on it. Scan to open its page.

The asset registry is the ID card file for everything with wheels, a plug or a dock door in your warehouse. Each device gets a number (AST-000001…), a type, a model, a purchase date, a warehouse + a plain-words location ("next to dock door 3"), and a status. Print its QR label, stick it on the machine, and anyone can scan it with a phone to see the device and change its status — no paper ledger, no hunting through spreadsheets.

Add a device: the 4-step wizard#

  1. Pick a type — tap one of the big cards: forklift, pallet jack, barcode scanner, label printer, dock door, dock leveler, or other.
  2. Basic info — the asset number is auto-assigned (AST-000001…); you can type your own as long as it is unique. Then model, purchase date, notes.
  3. Location & status — pick the warehouse from the dropdown, describe where it sits in plain words ("next to dock door 3" beats a location code nobody remembers), and choose In use or Idle.
  4. Done — the QR label appears. Print it, stick it on the equipment. "Add another" keeps the wizard rolling for the next machine.

Statuses: what they mean#

  • In use — working normally, on the floor.
  • Idle — parked, available, not assigned to anyone right now.
  • Under repair — broken or in the shop. Only reachable from In use / Idle; tap "Report repair" on the device page.
  • Scrapped — retired for good. This is one-way: a scrapped device is locked and can no longer change status or be edited.

The list page#

  • Filters: type, status, warehouse, plus a search box (number / model / notes).
  • Click a row to open the detail drawer: full info, the QR label, status-change buttons (only the legal next steps are shown), edit and delete.
  • "Open full page" jumps to /assets/{id} — the same page a phone scan lands on.
Name locations the way people talk: "charger row, near office door" survives staff turnover; "A-03-12-B" does not. The location field is free text on purpose.
Scrapping is permanent. Double-check the asset number before you tap it — there is no undo.
