Connect Item WMS: push orders and receipts, sync products and inventory
Ask UNIS for your Company ID, Customer ID and Facility ID, fill in your Item WMS username and password in Integration, test the sign-in, check the mapping, then activate outbound, inbound, labels, products and inventory.
The Item WMS connector links this system to Item WMS (UNIS). It pushes outbound orders and can cancel them, queries order acknowledgements and shipment confirmations, uploads shipping labels, creates and cancels inbound receipts, queries receipt acknowledgements and receipt confirmations, imports and searches products, and reads item-level inventory (available, allocated, damaged, frozen and on-hand). All three IDs it needs are assigned by UNIS — you cannot create them yourself. One connection works with the company, customer and facility values you fill in.
Prerequisites#
- An Item WMS login: a username and password you can sign in to Item WMS with.
- Your Company ID, assigned by a UNIS system administrator. Ask for it before you start — it is sent with almost every API call.
- Your Customer ID, assigned by UNIS Finance. It comes from a different team than the Company ID, so ask Finance for it separately.
- Your Facility ID (warehouse), assigned by your ITEM CSR. Confirm it is the ID of the warehouse this connection should work with.
- You normally do not need a Base URL: the connection uses the production address by default. Only note a different address if UNIS gave you a non-production or special environment.
Get your credentials#
- Ask a UNIS system administrator for your Company ID. All the IDs below are assigned by UNIS — you cannot create them yourself in Item WMS.
- Ask UNIS Finance for your Customer ID. Do not reuse the Company ID here — the two IDs are different values from different teams.
- Ask your ITEM CSR for your Facility ID, the warehouse ID for the warehouse this connection serves.
- Note the username and password of the Item WMS login for the integration, exactly as you use them to sign in to Item WMS.
Fill it into Integration#
- Open Integration, pick Item WMS, and start a new connection.
- username — required, Username: the Item WMS login username for the integration, for example your-username.
- password — required, Password: the password of that same Item WMS login. It is stored as a secret.
- company_id — required, Company ID: the ID assigned by a UNIS system administrator, for example in the form COMPANY01. Copy it exactly as UNIS gave it to you.
- customer_id — required, Customer ID: the ID assigned by UNIS Finance, for example in the form CUST001. It is not the same value as the Company ID.
- facility_id — required, Facility ID (warehouse): the warehouse ID assigned by your ITEM CSR, for example in the form WH01.
- base_url — optional, Base URL: leave it empty to use the default production address https://wms.item.com/api/public/v1/public. Fill it in only if UNIS gave you a different address for a non-production or special environment.
Test the connection#
Click Test connection. The test really signs in: it sends your username and password to the login endpoint of Item WMS and passes only when a token comes back. A pass therefore proves the username and password are correct and the address answers. The test does not make a business call with your three IDs, so a wrong Company ID, Customer ID or Facility ID can still pass the test and only fail later, on the first real order, receipt, product or inventory call. After the test passes, verify the three IDs with one real call before you activate, as described in the mapping step.
Mapping / pick a template#
Pick the Item WMS standard mapping for orders, receipts, products and inventory, and keep the company, customer and facility values from the connection as the values sent with each call. Then verify before activating: push or look up one real order and compare order number, lines and quantities; run one inventory check for a known product and compare available and on-hand quantities with Item WMS. This check is also how you confirm the three IDs: the sign-in test cannot check them, so a correct result here means the IDs belong together and point at the right warehouse.
Activate#
After activation, the connection pushes outbound orders to Item WMS, sends order cancellations, creates inbound receipts and receipt cancellations, uploads labels, and keeps pulling acknowledgements, shipment confirmations and receipt confirmations, while product imports, product searches and inventory reads run through the same connection. Watch the first orders and receipts in Runs / Logs and compare them with Item WMS before leaving the connection unattended.
Keep the scope in mind: this connection covers the outbound, inbound, label, product and inventory work listed above, with the company, customer and facility scope you filled in. Work for another facility or another customer needs its own values — do not change the IDs on a running connection to switch warehouse; create a separate connection instead.
FAQ#
Test fails with AUTH_FAILED
The sign-in was refused: Item WMS answered the login call but returned no token. That means the username, the password, or the address in use does not match — the login pair must be the Item WMS login itself, and base_url, when filled in, must point at the Item WMS API address.
Sign in to Item WMS directly with the same username and password to confirm the pair works, copy both values again without extra spaces, and clear base_url unless UNIS gave you a different address. Then test again.
The test passes, but the first real order or receipt call fails
This is expected behaviour when an ID is wrong: the test only signs in with username and password, while real calls also send the Company ID, Customer ID and Facility ID. A wrong or mismatched ID therefore passes the test and fails at the first business call.
Compare the three IDs character by character with what UNIS issued: Company ID from a UNIS system administrator, Customer ID from UNIS Finance, Facility ID from your ITEM CSR. Fix the wrong value in the connection, then repeat the same real call and confirm it succeeds before activating.
Where do I get the Company ID, Customer ID and Facility ID?
All three IDs are assigned by UNIS — you cannot create them yourself, and they come from three different sources. Looking for a page in Item WMS where you could generate them will not work.
Ask each source for its own ID: a UNIS system administrator for the Company ID, UNIS Finance for the Customer ID, and your ITEM CSR for the Facility ID. Collect all three, then fill them into the connection exactly as issued.
Should I fill in base_url?
In most cases no. base_url is optional: when it is left empty, the connection uses the default production address https://wms.item.com/api/public/v1/public. Filling it in with a copied or guessed address is a common cause of sign-in failures.
Leave base_url empty for the production environment. Fill it in only when UNIS gave you a different address for a non-production or special environment, and copy that address exactly.
Inventory numbers in this system do not match Item WMS
The connection reads item-level inventory from Item WMS — available, allocated, damaged, frozen and on-hand are separate quantities. A mismatch usually means a different quantity type was compared, or the product or facility scope differs between the two views.
Pick one known product in the same facility, compare the same quantity type on both sides (for example available against available), and check the product code matches the Item WMS item. If that one product matches, re-check the wider list with the same quantity type.
