Reservation Rules: Hold Capacity for Carriers You Count On

最終更新 2026-10-31

Set aside part of your capacity for a chosen carrier, carrier group or client — and let anything unused return to the open pool at the release time you set.

Reservation rules let you hold part of your capacity for the carriers and clients you count on, instead of letting every slot go to whoever books first. A rule points at a carrier, a carrier group or a client, and holds slots for them. When the release time you set arrives, any held capacity that was not used goes back to the common pool automatically, where anyone can book it.

Create a reservation rule#

  1. Open Reservation rules in your warehouse console and choose “Add reservation rule”.
  2. Choose who the rule is for: “A carrier”, searched by name or DOT, “A carrier group”, or “A client”.
  3. Choose the form of the hold (see the next section), set Slots held and the Release policy, then save the rule.

Choose the form of the hold#

  • Weekly (recurring): the hold repeats week by week. Set a Weekday to hold on that day only, or leave Weekday empty to hold every day.
  • One-off dates: the hold applies only to the specific dates you pick, and does not repeat.
  • Share of capacity: hold a share of capacity instead of a fixed count. Enter the Share as a number from 0 to 1 — for example, 0.25 holds a quarter of the capacity.

Set how many slots, and when they release#

Slots held is the number of slots the rule holds for its carrier, group or client. Release decides what happens to held slots that nobody used:

  • Release before the slot: enter a number of hours. That many hours before the slot starts, unused held capacity returns to the common pool and anyone can book it.
  • Hold — never release: the held capacity stays held right up to the start of the slot, and does not return to the common pool early.
Releasing earlier gives other carriers a fair chance at slots your regulars did not need; holding to the start gives your regulars the longest possible window. Pick per rule, according to how predictable that carrier, group or client is.

Carrier groups, and how rules sit with the waitlist#

Carrier groups are maintained on the Carriers page, and a rule simply points at a group — see “Managing Your Carriers on Yardor” for how to build and maintain groups. Reservation and the waitlist do different jobs and do not conflict: a reservation holds space for a specific carrier, group or client in advance, while the waitlist is the queue carriers join after a day is already full.

Yardor features used in this article#

  • Warehouse console → Reservation rules → Add reservation rule (carrier by name or DOT, carrier group, or client)
  • Reservation rule → Weekly (recurring) with Weekday, One-off dates, or Share of capacity
  • Reservation rule → Slots held and Release (Release before the slot, or Hold — never release)
  • Warehouse console → Carriers → Carrier groups (maintained there, pointed at by rules)
