Getting Started: Cross-Border E-commerce Sellers

For cross-border sellers warehousing in the US and shipping from China (Amazon / Walmart / Shein / Temu): the complete go-live path from item setup and inbound receiving to daily outbound, FBA first-mile, and returns.

Cross-border logistics: cargo plane and small parcels

For cross-border sellers, nothing is scarier than inventory sitting in a US warehouse with no clear visibility in the system. This guide is for sellers shipping from China with US warehousing (Amazon / Walmart / Shein / Temu), and walks you through the complete Docklify flow: item setup → inbound receiving → daily outbound → FBA first-mile → returns.

Stocking Up: Inbound Receiving#

  1. Set up your items: create SKUs in WMS with multi-unit conversions (UOM) and pallet configurations done once. ABC analysis automatically grades items by 90-day outbound volume — bestsellers land in class A.
  2. Create and approve purchase orders: create a PO and submit it for approval.
  3. Supplier sends ASN: record the advance shipping notice for full-container / full-pallet loads before arrival.
  4. Receive in WMS: create the inbound receipt against the ASN when goods arrive. Over- and under-receiving are allowed, but every line's variance must be confirmed before posting.

Daily Outbound#

  1. Create sales orders in OMS: manually, via Excel import, or automatically pulled from sales channels.
  2. Review and release: approval runs an automatic ATP check (is available inventory enough?). Orders that can't be fulfilled are held.
  3. Assign a warehouse and push to WMS: confirmed orders are assigned to a warehouse and pushed to WMS to generate picking tasks.
  4. Wave release: merge multiple orders into waves for release to boost picking efficiency.
  5. Pick on mobile: pickers pick in location sequence on their phones, following the system-planned optimal route.
  6. Pack, confirm, and ship: verify while packing, then ship. Tracking numbers are written back to the OMS order lines automatically.

FBA First-Mile#

First-mile shipments to Amazon warehouses go through WMS Outbound Load: the Load ID is auto-generated by the system, while the Load No is your business reference number entered manually (e.g., the Amazon shipment ID). They are managed separately so loading, dispatch, and reconciliation all line up.

Handling Returns#

Platform returns are created in OMS as RMAs against the original order, and returned goods go back into stock through the standard receiving flow with inspection. Items that pass QC go back on the shelf as sellable; failed items go through the defective flow, without touching good inventory.

Have an overseas partner who wants to place orders themselves? Give them a Merchant Portal account — they place orders and check inventory and tracking on their own, while you only handle approval and shipping.
